About the position Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. This position is designed to prepare a trainee for employment as a Firefighter (Basic Life Support/Hazardous Materials Technician), GS-0081-04 with a target full performance level of GS-07. Responsibilities Assist a firefighter crew member in controlling and extinguishing fires. , Perform maintenance and decontamination on tools and equipment after operations are complete. , Perform basic first aid services for the injured and sick. , Assist with the operation of pumps, foam generators, hoses, and nozzles and turrets. Requirements Must be a current student pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited institution. , Must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study or have an associate's degree. , Must be able to work 24 hour rotating shifts on a 72-hour weekly schedule. , Must complete a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter. , Must lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Nice-to-haves Experience in firefighting or emergency medical care. , Knowledge of firefighting equipment and techniques.
