About the position
Witt O’Brien’s is seeking a Project Cost Control Analyst to join our organization. The candidate will work in a dynamic team comprised of highly experienced consultants and highly engaged clients to meet fast-paced project requirements and may provide in-person support. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and managing financial expenditure within an organization.
Responsibilities
• Monitor and track project costs, ensuring all expenditures are accurately recorded and categorized.
• Maintain cost management databases, systems, and spreadsheets for real-time cost visibility.
• Verify and validate cost data, invoices, and purchase orders for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist in preparing and updating project budgets, cost baselines, and financial forecasts.
• Work closely with project teams to identify cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Support in preparing cash flow forecasts and cost projections throughout the project lifecycle.
• Analyze actual project costs against budgets and forecasts to identify variances.
• Prepare detailed cost reports, including cost performance metrics, trend analyses, and variance explanations.
• Collaborate with project managers to identify cost-saving opportunities and manage cost overruns.
• Evaluate the cost impact of change orders, scope adjustments, and schedule changes.
• Maintain updated cost estimates to reflect changes and their effects on budgets.
• Coordinate with project managers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost management.
• Present cost data, findings, and recommendations to project stakeholders and leadership teams.
• Assist in preparing financial presentations and dashboards for internal and external reviews.
• Identify and implement improvements in cost control processes and tools.
• Assist in maintaining and enhancing cost reporting systems for increased efficiency.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a cost analysis or related role
• Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting principles
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial data analysis and interpretation
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills to convey financial information to stakeholders
• Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Word) and spreadsheet (Excel) software applications
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements
• Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize multiple on-going projects
• Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information
