Patent Paralegal Our client is deploying high performance, low-cost, zero carbon heat batteries to enable greater penetration of renewable energy and to decarbonize industrial processes. The Heat Batteries provide high temperature, continuous heat charged from intermittent power safely, reliably and at a cost point that is lower than any other method. We have an immediate opening for a Patent Paralegal to assist in obtaining and maintaining patent protection, including managing patent portfolios, assisting in organizing and tracking technology reviews, and assisting internally and with outside counsel in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Duties will also include support for a broad range of legal matters in this high-energy start-up company. Responsibilities include: • Collaborating with the USPTO, attorneys, U.S. and foreign outside counsel, and staff • Extracting relevant IP information from official USPTO databases and correspondence • Generating docket reports, performing IP docketing, and tracking deadlines • Entering new U.S. Provisional, Continuation, Utility, Design, CIP, Opposition, Divisional, and re-examination files into the knowledge base • Assisting attorneys with patent filing by resolving discrepancies, errors, and omissions • Maintaining IP records and reviewing files • Reporting to General Counsel • Performing IP research on public and private databases • Processing incoming and outgoing correspondence Qualifications: • State-approved accredited paralegal certification • Ideal, but not required: bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific subject, or in business • If no bachelor’s degree, ideally a post-secondary program with law-related coursework • 2+ years of experience in patent docketing and prosecution administration • Proficiency in legal terminology and electronic databases, including the USPTO's PAIR (Patent Application Information Retrieval) system, WIPO resources and Espacenet • Experience in managing IP records and generating docket reports • Extensive knowledge of patent filing and review • Exceptional ability to perform research and keep track of deadlines • Ability to collaborate with others and work independently • Exceptional recordkeeping and communication skills • Proficiency in relevant applications such as MS Word and Excel Location: San Francisco Bay Area, California | Seattle, Washington | Remote is an option
