The Junior Distressed Credit Analyst will be responsible for managing data related to distressed credit situations and producing insightful analysis to support clients and editorial coverage. Responsibilities - Produce timely, accurate analysis of distressed credit situations across the US leveraged finance and high yield markets, supporting 9fin’s editorial coverage - Monitor developments across a portfolio of distressed issuers, tracking covenant breaches, rating actions, liquidity events, and out-of-court restructuring activity - Build and maintain financial models tracking capital structure, debt maturity profiles, and recovery scenarios for companies in or approaching distress - Assist senior reporters and editors in researching and fact-checking longer-form investigative pieces on liability management exercises, Chapter 11 cases, and creditor disputes - Contribute to 9fin’s Default Notice newsletter and other recurring content products covering the distressed and restructuring landscape - Engage with market participants including lawyers, advisors, and buyside investors to develop source relationships and gather market intelligence Skills - 0–2 years of experience in leveraged finance, credit analysis, restructuring advisory, or financial journalism - Strong understanding of corporate capital structures, credit agreements, and the mechanics of debt restructuring - Clear and concise writer, capable of translating complex financial situations into accessible analysis for sophisticated market participants - Strong Excel and financial modelling skills; familiarity with Bloomberg or other financial data terminals is a plus - Curious, self-directed, and able to manage multiple competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy - Genuine interest in distressed credit and the legal, financial, and operational dynamics of companies under pressure Benefits - Equity options - 401(k) (9fin pay 3%, employee contributions are uncapped) - Private Health Insurance, with Dental and Vision - Paid sick leave - Disability Insurance (New York) - Commuter Benefit - 25 vacation days per year - Local public holidays (with the ability to exchange them for alternative days) - Hybrid working model - Work abroad for up to 3 months a year - 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years of service - Enhanced parental leave & flexible working arrangements available - Professional learning and development budget - AI experimentation budget of $1,000 per employee to trial AI tools - Bi-annual team socials - Summer and Winter company-wide social events Company Overview - 9fin is an AI-powered platform that provides real-time news, data, and analytics specifically for the debt markets.
