If growing professionally while serving your community is for you, bring your skills to Durham! Devoted to providing clerical and/or office support activities for city functions and staff. Incumbents assigned to this class provide routine administrative support, customer service, and/or basic transaction processing following prescribed procedures and instructions. Responsible for providing general administrative support such as mail processing, data entry, filing, record-keeping, copying, document processing, customer service, reception and transaction processing/monitoring, which may include transactions conducted in support of field operations such as print shop operations or solid waste transfer station operations. Processes routine transactions; monitors for accuracy and completeness. Understand and effectively communicate Solid Waste Rules. Maintains files and records.  Answers phones, responds to routine questions and/or routes callers to appropriate staff/location.  Processes incoming/outgoing mail, as assigned.  Performing basic equipment maintenance such as adding toner and cleaning. Processingtransactions and communicating with customers. Processing incoming/outgoing mail, emails, and accepting deliveries.  Providing customer service by receiving cash and issuing receipts. Performing data entry using Waste Works software. Responding to phone and in-person inquiries. Efficiently moving and instructing customers. Assisting at the hand unload operation. Litter control. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC). Two (2) years of related clerical/administrative support/customer service experience. Scale Operator’s License (will be issued upon successful completion of probationary period). Obtain City of Durham Cash Handling Certification within three (3) months of hire. Transfer Station Specialist Certification within one (1) year of hire date. Proficiency on Office 365 Office Suite. Proficiency with Waste Works database software within three (3) months of hire. Good customer service skills.
