In San Diego, the IRC opened its doors in 1975 and has grown to serve approximately 7,000 refugee and immigrant individuals from 115 countries of origin each year through 5 different departments. SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP: The Event Planning Intern will support the Development Team at IRC San Diego in coordinating and promoting the annual fundraising event, Taste of IRC, that will take place on October 30th, 2025. This role offers hands-on experience in event planning, communication, development and donor relations. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in planning and logistics for the Taste of IRC Support outreach to donors, sponsors, vendors, and event partners Help develop promotional materials and social media content Manage event-related databases and tracking documents LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Student will learn how to plan and execute major fundraising and community events Student will learn about strategic planning for fundraising and communications Student will learn about administrative processes in the non-profit space. BENEFITS: Hands-on experience in fundraising and event coordination Mentorship and professional development opportunities Flexible schedule Letter of recommendation upon successful completion REQUIREMENTS: Currently in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or graduated within one year, preferably event planning, marketing, communications or related area of study Proficient in spoken and written English Interest in event planning, nonprofit work, fundraising, or related fields Strong organizational and communication skills Detail-oriented and proactive Comfortable working independently and as part of a team Proficient in Microsoft Office suite Previous volunteer or event planning experience is a bonus, but not required Intern will need to supply their home workspace, computer, internet access, etc. This position reports to the Development Manager. Compensation: This is an unpaid internship opportunity. Working Environment: The Event Planning Internship is remote, with occasional in-person days. San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm PST. Selected interns can choose their hours based on this window of availability.
