Job title: Student PLUS Peer Leaders- Pool in Lawrence, KS at University of Kansas Company: University of Kansas Job description : Department Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Primary Campus University of Kansas Lawrence Campus Job Description 40% - Attend Lecture and Weekly Meetings Attend assigned lecture classes and the required weekly meetings for the designated PLUS group. 40% - Facilitate PLUS Sessions Lead PLUS sessions to assist students in understanding science concepts aligned with the material covered in Biology or General and Organic Chemistry lectures. 5% - Develop and Evaluate Materials Contribute to the development and evaluation of PLUS materials to support ongoing program improvement. 5% - Orientation, Training, and Workshops Participate in all required PLUS orientation sessions, training programs, and workshops. 5% - Foster a Supportive Learning Environment Create and maintain a learning environment that promotes patience, encouragement, and academic growth. 3% - Administrative Duties Report work hours and complete timesheets accurately as directed by program supervisors. 1% - Provide Student Feedback Offer constructive feedback on session participants based on observed engagement and performance. 1% - Program Outreach Promote the PLUS program through lab class visits and participation in university events. Excellent communication skills as evidenced in application materials. Advertised Salary Range $10.25 - $12.00 Preferred Qualifications Previously enrolled in and successfully completed (with a grade of B or higher) the assigned PLUS course or a more advanced course within the same discipline as indicated on application materials. Demonstrated familiarity with the PLUS program by attending sessions prior to applying as a peer leader as indicated on application materials. Availability to attend the assigned lecture course for at least two consecutive semesters as indicated on application materials. Position Overview The PLUS (Peer-Led Undergraduate Supplement) program oversees and facilitates peer-led supplemental discussion sessions in Biology and Chemistry. These sessions are designed to promote interactive, small-group activities that reinforce lecture content and help bridge the gap between teaching and learning. This position operates under the supervision of the Director of the PLUS program and the Biology/Chemistry Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). Position Requirements During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments). Employment Conditions (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR. (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
