A Day in the Life and the Impact You Will Make:
As a Senior Health & Safety Consultant (Part-Time Flex) at DEKRA, you will support clients in managing complex Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) risks by providing senior-level expertise, program leadership, and strategic advisory support. You will help protect workers, safeguard environmental resources, and strengthen client safety cultures by driving system-level improvement rather than transactional execution. This role is designed for an experienced EHS professional who brings deep technical foundations in areas such as occupational safety, construction safety, electrical safety, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental management, and applies that knowledge primarily through program development, governance, and client advisory engagements.
What You’ll Do:
• Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies.
• Provide day-to-day leadership and management of DEKRA’s proprietary Safety products and services.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in an array of Health and Safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices, including:
• Regulatory & Compliance Expertise:
• OSHA Working knowledge of U.S. EHS regulatory frameworks, including:
• OSHA General Industry and Construction Standards (29 CFR 1910 / 1926)
• Injury & Illness Recordkeeping (29 CFR 1904)
• DOT Hazmat Regulations (49 CFR Parts 100–185)
• Safety of Machinery (ANSI B11.0)
• Emergency Planning & Response (29 CFR 1910.38 / 120)
• EPA environmental requirements relevant to operations (e.g., RCRA, CWA, CAA – at a programmatic level)
• Ability to translate regulatory obligations into scalable programs, procedures, and governance models, rather than preparing detailed permit submittals or technical filings
• Programmatic and Risk Management Expertise:
• Design, implementation, and maturation of EHS programs, including:
• Electrical safety and hazardous energy control programs (e.g., LOTO, energized work governance)
• Industrial hygiene and occupational health programs (exposure risk prioritization, control strategies, oversight of sampling data)
• Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including ISO 14001 integration and governance
• Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Human Performance principles
• Job Safety Analysis (JSA)/Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
• Risk Assessment Methodologies
• Contractor Safety Management
• Industrial Hygiene Exposure Monitoring
• Development of policies, standards, procedures, and performance metrics across EHS disciplines
• Support for EHS risk evaluations during mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
• Cultural, Strategic, and Advisory Expertise:
• Safety and environmental culture assessments and improvement planning
• Development and use of leading indicators and performance dashboards
• Executive and operational leadership coaching on EHS risk and accountability
• Root cause analysis of incidents and near misses (TapRooT®, RCA, 5-Why), including health, safety, and environmental contributors
• Support for integrated management systems (e.g., ISO 45001 / ISO 14001)
• Preparation and delivery of clear, decision-ready insights for client leadership teams
• Provide high-quality client service in support of DEKRA’s EHS solutions and systems
• Assess, audit, and review client programs and operations; identify gaps and recommend practical improvements
• Prepare and present reports, findings, and recommendations to client safety, environmental, and leadership teams
• Support business development through technical input, scoping, and proposal support
• Contribute to thought leadership, training, and client presentations as needed
• Contribute to the development and application of AI-enabled consulting approaches that enhance EHS program effectiveness, insight generation, and client value.
What You’ll Bring:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in EHS, industrial hygiene, environmental studies, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience: 10+ years of EHS experience in consulting, industry, or regulatory environments, with demonstrated leadership in program development, governance, or enterprise-level risk management.
• Certifications: CSP and/or CIH preferred, other EHS or management system credentials a plus
• Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior advisor, not just a technical executor
• Strong understanding of electrical safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental risks, applied through systems and programmatic controls
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting
• Proven client relationship management and facilitation skills
• Strong planning, prioritization, and project management capabilities
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within delivery teams and client organizations
• Experience supporting organizational improvement initiatives (safety, health, environmental, or quality)
• Strong workshop facilitation, training, and presentation skills
• Comfort operating in a flexible, part-time capacity, adapting quickly to changing client needs
Physical Considerations:
• Ability to work in a variety of client locations/environments, including indoors/outdoors and on uneven terrain.
• Must be able to work variable shifts as required by client operations.
• Ability to travel extensively, including prolonged driving and air travel.
• Capable of lifting 25–50 lbs (luggage).
• Extended periods of computer work and standing.
Travel Considerations:
• Domestic travel required, yet negotiable and can vary depending on desired workload and expertise.
What You’ll Receive for the Value You Bring:
Compensation: This position allows for hourly professional fees according to confirmed project work; with billable work rates ranging from $75 - $100 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including market location, position-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and placement in a specific consulting level based on experience and work history.
