I'm the founder of an editorial design brand creating sophisticated city guides and cultural content for globally mobile families. Think: The New Yorker meets Monocle meets Loewe.
I need a Squarespace specialist who understands editorial design, can execute quickly, and doesn't need hand-holding.
WHAT I NEED HELP WITH:
- Troubleshooting layout and spacing issues (currently have CSS gaps appearing inconsistently across browsers)
- Implementing design changes to city guide templates (image placement, typography refinement, responsive behavior)
- Optimizing page load times and SEO structure
- Creating reusable content blocks and templates for future city guides
- Occasional custom CSS or code injection for specific design needs
WHAT I'M NOT LOOKING FOR:
- Someone who needs me to explain what "editorial design" means
- Template builders who only work within Squarespace's default options
- People who disappear for days between messages
YOUR BACKGROUND SHOULD INCLUDE:
- 3+ years hands-on Squarespace experience (7.1 specifically)
- Portfolio showing clean, editorial, or design-forward Squarespace sites you've built or maintained
- Comfort with custom CSS and troubleshooting browser inconsistencies
- Experience working with publishing, editorial, or design brands (not e-commerce)
- Strong communication - I need someone who can see a problem, diagnose it, and fix it without five back-and-forth messages
TO APPLY:
1. Start your proposal with your favorite design publication or editorial website
2. Include 2-3 Squarespace sites you've built that demonstrate editorial or design sensibility (link + brief explanation of what you did)
3. Tell me how you'd approach troubleshooting: "inconsistent CSS spacing that appears in one browser but not another"
4. What's your typical turnaround time for small fixes vs. larger design implementations?
SCOPE:
- Starting with 5-10 hours per month, potential to grow as the brand scales
- Mix of quick fixes (30 min to 1 hour) and larger projects (template building, site restructuring)
- Ongoing relationship, not one-off project
PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF:
- You're primarily a graphic designer dabbling in Squarespace
- You work exclusively through agencies or teams (I need direct communication)
- You're not comfortable with technical troubleshooting
Worldwide applicants welcome. Please note your timezone and typical working hours in your proposal.
