As a Lead Digital Storyteller, you'll be responsible for driving National Geographic's digital vision forward by managing a team of editors, creating and executing content strategies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact stories. You'll be the driving force behind National Geographic's digital storytelling, using data and experimentation to test new concepts and formats. Key Responsibilities: Manage a team of editors, including hiring, coaching, and performance management Align content and promotion strategies with the Executive Editor of Digital, collaborating with teams across the company Run regular digital editorial pitch meetings, making decisions on story assignments and pitches Approve, reframe, or kill story pitches as needed, deciding paywall status and weekly publishing cadence Instruct and set expectations for story framing and length, using data and experimentation to test new concepts Advise on headlines and help editors craft compelling headlines, testing them as needed Collaborate with the digital photo manager, graphics team, and interactive storytelling team to plan and publish engaging content Attend weekly leadership meetings to report on upcoming content and contribute to business objectives Meet with PR and Marketing teams to strategize creative solutions and reshape print-first stories Identify digital-first story packages with potential for synergy and franchising Work closely with the Director of Integrated Storytelling to conceptualize digital content for synergy priority needs Report on daily trends and execute digital publishing strategically Collaborate with the Digital Engagement Team to build and oversee the editorial Search strategy Regularly collaborate with the Social team on digital content ideation and execute bigger digital projects Hold monthly data meetings with the editorial team to report on performance and strategies Meet weekly with direct reports to provide feedback on performance and output Required Qualifications & Skills: 8+ years of editorial experience in digital publishing, including management and supervisory responsibility Strong background in writing, editing, and digital operations, with a broad knowledge of search engine optimization Future-forward digital manager with superior conceptual editing skills and big-picture digital strategy Ability to write digitally optimized headlines and text Highly developed ability to recognize and create story ideas, including ideas with major visual and multimedia components Unflappability and a cheerful attitude under publishing pressures Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of personalities Preferred Qualifications: Keen sense of the competitive media landscape, tried tactics, and industry trends Ability to help with recruiting and retaining talent Understanding of priorities and demands of a large umbrella company, such as The Walt Disney Company Patient and effective working style with multiple divisions and external partners Education: Bachelor's degree with concentrated studies in journalism, digital media, or communication Compensation: Hiring range: $163,500 to $219,200 per year Base pay may vary depending on internal equity, geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience Bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits Job Type: Full-time Location: Washington, DC, USA Apply Now: Apply for this job
