[Remote] Utility Feasibility & Economics Analyst

Francis Energy is a pioneer in the EV charging industry, and they are seeking a Utility Feasibility & Economics Analyst to support early-stage EV charging project development. The role involves evaluating electric utility rates, confirming power availability, and identifying utility incentive programs to support feasibility determinations and financial analysis. Responsibilities • Analyze electric utility rate schedules applicable to EV charging infrastructure, including: • Energy (kWh) charges • Demand (kW) charges • Time-of-use structures • Riders, surcharges, and pass-through fees • Taxes and other miscellaneous charges • Identify and model all components contributing to the fully burdened monthly utility cost for prospective EV charging sites • Compare alternative rate schedules, including EV-specific tariffs, to determine the most cost-effective option • Develop and maintain standardized tools and methodologies for utility cost analysis during feasibility • Engage directly with electric utilities to: • Confirm preliminary power availability at specific sites • Inquire about transformer availability and estimated lead times • Document utility feedback, assumptions, risks, and constraints clearly for internal feasibility tracking • Research utility rebate and incentive programs applicable to EV charging infrastructure • Identify incentive eligibility requirements, caps, timelines, and application processes • Maintain an internal reference library of utility incentive programs by territory • Support Project Development in determining whether sites are technically buildable and economically viable • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Engineering, and external stakeholders as needed to align feasibility assumptions with downstream execution • Continuously monitor changes in utility tariffs, programs, and EV-specific offerings and incorporate updates into feasibility processes Skills • Strong understanding of electric utility rate structures, demand charges, and riders • Ability to break down complex tariffs into structured, finance-ready inputs • Comfort engaging electric utilities directly via phone and email to obtain preliminary technical and planning information • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analytical breakdowns and structured data outputs (not financial forecasting) • Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills • Ability to manage multiple feasibility analyses simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • 3+ years of experience analyzing electric utility rates, tariffs, or energy cost structures • Demonstrated experience providing utility cost inputs to finance, development teams or other stakeholders • Experience working directly with electric utilities or utility-facing stakeholders • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience • Experience in EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, or utility-adjacent industries • Familiarity with DC fast charging load profiles, service classifications, or utility incentive programs Benefits • 401(k) • 401(k) Matching • Medical Insurance (50% employer paid) • Dental Insurance • Vision Insurance • Life Insurance ($25,000 employer paid for employee only) • FSA • PTO • Short Term Disability (100% employer paid) • Long Term Disability • TelaDoc (100% employer paid) Company Overview • Francis Energy's mission is to create regional networks of public access electric vehicle charging equipment in order to encourage and support the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
