I am seeking an experienced publishing consultant or journalism professional to help position a long-form narrative story for potential publication in a magazine or digital outlet.
The story is a real-life narrative involving:
• interstate custody litigation
• pro se legal representation in a complex divorce case
• investigation into financial disclosures and records
• personal recovery following a mental health crisis and addiction treatment
• a broader narrative about navigating the legal system without counsel
The manuscript combines personal narrative, investigative elements, and court documentation.
I am looking for someone who can provide guidance on:
• identifying the strongest publication angle
• evaluating which outlets may be a good fit
• refining the story’s positioning for editors
• advice on pitching the story to magazines or long-form journalism outlets
• general publishing strategy (article vs. book vs. serialized narrative)
This role is consultative and strategic, not traditional PR. I am looking for someone with real experience in journalism, magazine publishing, or narrative nonfiction.
Ideal candidates may have experience with:
• long-form journalism or narrative nonfiction
• working with editors at major publications
• advising writers on pitching stories
• investigative or legal-related storytelling
Please include:
• relevant background or publications you’ve worked with
• examples of projects you’ve advised on
• your approach to evaluating and positioning stories
Confidentiality will be required before sharing the full manuscript.
This may start as a short consulting engagement but could expand depending on fit.
