## Information Security Intern — Summer 2026
At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter. We are seeking a self-motivated, collaborative individual with a passion for cybersecurity, technology, and problem solving to join our Corporate IT organization as an Information Security Intern. You will work closely with experienced security professionals to help protect the company’s systems and data and gain hands-on experience supporting real-world security initiatives.
You will be exposed to key information security domains including security operations, risk management, governance, vulnerability management, identity and access management, and security awareness. This role is intended as a learning experience: you’ll learn foundational security concepts, how security controls are implemented and monitored, and how to think about risk and data protection in a large enterprise environment. Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.
A typical day may include helping with monitoring and responding to security alerts, events, and incidents; supporting vulnerability management activities such as scanning support, validation, and basic remediation tracking; and helping document and maintain security procedures, standards, and control evidence. You will also participate in risk assessments, security reviews, and control testing activities, and assist with identity and access management processes such as access reviews and provisioning support.
You will support security awareness and training initiatives, contribute to documentation and content development, and assist with security tooling administration and reporting (e.g., dashboards, metrics, and status updates). Collaboration with IT and business teams to support secure technology implementations and projects is expected as part of the role.
What we ask of you: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program. We prefer candidates with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an interest in information security and risk management. A basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts such as network security, endpoint security, cloud security, or data protection is helpful. Familiarity with common security frameworks or standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, CIS) is a plus. Exposure to operating systems, networking, or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) is beneficial. Basic scripting or programming knowledge (e.g., Python, Power. Shell) is a plus but not required. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are important.
