Overview
I’m seeking a senior-level furniture consultant to help refine and finalize furniture selections, layout, and related decisions for a high-end residential interior.
This is not a generic styling or decorating role. The focus is on proportion, restraint, circulation, alignment, and judgment — ensuring furniture decisions work spatially, visually, and functionally.
The architecture and overall design direction are already established. The work here is about editing, validating, and dialing in the final furniture and adjacent decisions so the space feels calm, intentional, and resolved.
Scope of Work
This role includes:
Refining and validating furniture selections (sofas, chairs, tables, modular or stackable seating)
Ensuring furniture is properly scaled, centered, and aligned with architectural elements, especially the TV
Confirming layouts that work for both daily use and more formal configurations
Evaluating furniture in relation to lighting, circulation, and sightlines
Living Area Requirements
Clear, comfortable accessibility and circulation between the living room and the kitchen island
Seating that remains visually centered and aligned with the TV
An extending table located in the center of the space
Modular or stackable chairs that can be pushed in for formal meals
There is no dedicated dining room, so this area must function flexibly without feeling compromised.
Accessibility Considerations
The primary user navigates the space in a power wheelchair.
Furniture layout must:
Preserve clear circulation paths
Avoid visual or physical crowding
Support accessibility without creating an institutional or overdesigned feel
Experience working thoughtfully within accessibility constraints is important.
Color & Surface Coordination (Within Scope)
Wall colors and surface finishes (e.g., paint, Roman clay, limewash) have not yet been finalized and will be informed by the final furniture selections.
The consultant should be comfortable:
Helping dial in wall color direction and surface texture in response to furniture choices
Evaluating how upholstery, wood tone, and material texture affect the overall read of the space
Making restrained, high-level recommendations to ensure cohesion
This role does not involve developing expansive color palettes or redesigning architectural finishes. The focus is coordination and refinement.
Working Style (Important)
I am specifically looking to work in real time, not purely asynchronously.
This includes:
Live working sessions (Zoom or similar)
Screen sharing
Real-time discussion of layouts, proportions, and selections
The goal is faster iteration, clearer decisions, and fewer revision cycles.
This role is best suited to someone comfortable thinking and refining collaboratively, rather than delivering static concepts independently.
What This Is Not
Not a full interior design role
Not FF&E procurement
Not a styling or mood-board exercise
Not a purely async “send options and wait” engagement
Ideal Background
You may be a strong fit if you have experience with:
High-end residential furniture refinement or editing
Accessibility-aware layouts approached with restraint
Calm, proportion-driven interiors
Collaborative work with clients and design teams
Screening Question
Are you comfortable working live over Zoom or screen share to refine furniture layouts, selections, and related decisions in real time?
