Description
The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions is responsible for supervision of the Financial Services
Industry and for chartering, licensing and registering various financial institutions, securities firms and
professionals operating in the state of Kentucky.
We are looking for a Financial Institutions Examiner I, to join our team of highly skilled professionals.
As a Financial Institutions Examiner I, you will conduct examinations of depository institutions within the
Commonwealth of Kentucky to protect shareholders of those institutions, including their employees and
communities, from the adverse impacts of unsafe and unsound practices. Work in this position includes
conducting examinations within all areas related to the operation of banks and trust companies. The
successful candidate will receive extensive training to allow the candidate to assess the safety and soundness
of our state’s depository institutions, which includes accurately identifying the institution’s ratings for
capital, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity, and sensitivity to market risk. Furthermore,
candidates may also be trained and responsible for assessing the institution’s risks related to compliance
with Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering laws and information technology.
This position will be assigned a residence workstation to allow telework when not reporting to a regulated
entity’s office or a designated location for training. A Kentucky residence is required. While the duties of
a Financial Institutions Examiner I may be performed state-wide, this position will be primarily responsible
for traveling to institutions in an area including Jefferson County and the surrounding counties, north to
Kenton County, and south to Wayne County.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Learning to conduct safety and soundness examinations of depository institutions.
- Learning how to gather and analyze data to determine and support examination findings.
- Learning to write examination reports that comply with the department’s guidance and requirements.
- Traveling to and conducting examinations at our depository institutions within the Commonwealth of
Kentucky and trainings outside the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Work outside the home workstation will comprise
up to 50% of your work time, some or all of which could be overnight travel. Approximately 10% of this time
will be spent in the aforementioned trainings.
- Working closely with other team members to ensure the completion of all necessary tasks related to the
scope of the examination.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance or a related field, or a juris doctorate.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience as a financial institution or securities examiner, or professional experience working for a financial institution or securities regulatory agency will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis. OR Two years of professional experience as an officer, accountant, analyst, internal auditor, compliance officer, or related professional in a financial institution; or as a registered/licensed securities broker, dealer, agent or investment advisor representative; or as an investigator of financial fraud in the financial institutions or securities industries; or as an examiner, analyst or specialist at a state or federal regulatory agency will substitute for each year of the required education.

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is usually performed in the offices of the financial institution or securities entity being examined, reviewed, or investigated. Will require travel usually within a defined geographic "district." Travel outside one's district may be required periodically. Work may also be performed in the Department's central office or in one of its field offices.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
