Position Overview
The Controls Foreman is a field leadership role responsible for overseeing BAS/HVAC controls installation and commissioning on new construction and remodel projects nationwide. This position partners with the Superintendent to plan daily work, coordinate with other trades, and ensure safe, high-quality execution aligned with project schedules. This is a 75%+ travel role with a typical rotation of 17 days in the field followed by 4 days at home.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise controls technicians; assign work by skill level and provide hands-on training
- Install control panels and BAS devices including sensors, relays, current switches, and associated components
- Bend/install conduit; pull, route, and terminate wiring per drawings and specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, submittals, and project specifications
- Coordinate field execution with the Superintendent and other trades to meet schedule demands
- Monitor productivity, troubleshoot field issues, and maintain jobsite documentation
- Enforce GEMCO safety policies and quality standards
- Lead inspections, testing, commissioning, and punch list completion
- Review/approve time sheets and submit required reports
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience leading BAS/controls field crews in a construction environment
- Strong knowledge of HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS) installation
- Experience with conduit bending, device installation, wire pulling, and termination
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and project specifications
- Strong organization, leadership, and communication skills
- Commitment to safety, quality, and professionalism
Physical Demands / Work Environment
Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolds at heights up to 100+ feet. Must be able to travel long distances and work in active construction environments.
