Contracted | Non-Credit | Online | Open Until Filled UNC Charlotte's School of Professional Studies invites applications for contracted instructors to support the new Certified Financial Planner Certificate Program. This is a contract-based, non-credit instructional role delivered in a structured online format using Canvas LMS. The curriculum emphasizes applied financial planning, fiduciary responsibility, ethical reasoning, quantitative analysis, and client-centered communication. General Responsibilities (All Courses) All instructors are expected to: Online Instruction & Engagement • Deliver high-quality online instruction using Canvas LMS and Zoom. • Demonstrate fluency with modules, discussions, assignments, grading tools, and rubric-based feedback. • Apply adult learning principles to support working professionals. • Maintain consistent instructor presence and timely communication. • Provide substantive, actionable feedback that strengthens analytical reasoning and professional communication. Professional Standards • Ensure alignment with CFP Board Principal Knowledge Topics, Practice Standards, and Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct. • Reinforce fiduciary responsibility and appropriate professional scope boundaries. • Incorporate current regulatory, tax, and market developments. • Use financial planning software and spreadsheet modeling where appropriate. Course-Specific Opportunities Applicants may apply for one or more of the following courses: 1. Foundations of Financial Planning, Ethics & Client Communication Focus Areas: • CFP Board Practice Standards and client discovery process • Net worth and cash flow statement construction • Financial ratios and benchmarking • Behavioral finance and client decision-making • Ethical dilemmas and fiduciary standards Ideal Experience: • Comprehensive financial planning practice • Strong client communication and discovery experience • Demonstrated application of fiduciary standards 2. Insurance & Risk Management Planning Focus Areas: • Risk identification and structured risk analysis • Life, health, disability, and long-term care needs analysis • Policy comparison and suitability evaluation • Client communication of insurance recommendations Ideal Experience: • Insurance planning or risk management specialization • Quantitative insurance needs analysis • Product evaluation and suitability determination 3. Investment Planning Focus Areas: • Investment Policy Statement development • Portfolio construction and asset allocation • Rebalancing strategies • Performance measurement using benchmarks and risk-adjusted metrics • Cost and tax considerations Ideal Experience: • Investment advisory or portfolio management • Asset allocation strategy development • Performance analytics and evaluation 4. Income Tax Planning Focus Areas: • Tax implications of financial planning decisions • Tax-aware investment and retirement strategies • Planning-level considerations for business owners • Professional referral boundaries Ideal Experience: • Tax planning within financial advisory practice • CPA, EA, or tax-focused background preferred • Ability to translate tax concepts into planning strategy 5. Retirement Savings & Income Planning Focus Areas: • Retirement needs analysis • Longevity, inflation, and sequencing risk • Qualified and non-qualified plan strategies • Social Security and Medicare integration • Retirement income modeling Ideal Experience: • Retirement income planning • Accumulation and distribution modeling • Client communication of retirement trade-offs 6. Estate Planning Focus Areas: • Estate planning strategies and wealth transfer techniques • Beneficiary coordination and titling • Estate tax and liquidity considerations • Professional scope and referral standards Ideal Experience: • Estate planning coordination within financial planning practice • JD or estate-focused experience preferred 7. Capstone: Comprehensive Financial Plan Development & Integration Focus Areas: • Integration of all planning domains • Synthesis of qualitative and quantitative client data • Evaluation of alternative strategies • Written and oral presentation of comprehensive financial plans • Application of CFP Board Code of Ethics Ideal Experience: • Extensive experience developing and presenting full financial plans • Strong analytical reasoning and evaluation skills Required Qualifications • Active CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification in good standing • A Bachelor’s degree in financial planning, finance, business, or a closely related discipline • Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in comprehensive financial planning • Demonstrated expertise consistent with CFP Board education standards • Experience teaching, training, or mentoring adult learners • Demonstrated effectiveness delivering instruction in online environments • Fluency with Canvas LMS or comparable learning management systems and Zoom • Strong technical proficiency, including financial planning software and advanced spreadsheet modeling • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications • Graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in financial planning or related discipline • Additional professional certifications or licensure relevant to area of instruction (CPA, CFA, JD, EA, etc.) • Experience supporting career development or coaching emerging professionals • Active participation in academic or professional organizations related to personal financial planning • Experience serving on professional committees, advisory boards, or industry initiatives • Active Member of Charlotte FPA Position Details • Contracted professional development role • Non-credit certificate program • Fully online delivery • Development compensation available as needed in addition to instructional compensation
