WBA Local Government Law is a recognized leader in development and local government representation, seeking proactive driven Associate Attorneys to join their thriving practice. The role involves engaging in sophisticated legal work related to special districts and local government, with opportunities for direct client interaction and collaboration with industry professionals. Responsibilities - Support Shareholders and Senior Attorneys, serving as general or special counsel to special districts and local governmental entities - Advise clients on governance, statutory compliance, election procedures, open meetings/open records laws, and other operational matters - Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, boards, consultants, and other stakeholders - Conduct legal research and analysis of municipal, state, and federal laws affecting special districts - Prepare detailed legal memoranda, opinion letters, and client guidance - Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, intergovernmental agreements, leases, and deeds - Assist with the formation and organization of newly created special districts - Oversee compliance related to debt issuance, elections, and tax‑related requirements (including TABOR) - Manage assigned compliance tasks, track deadlines, and ensure timely filings - Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve client objectives - Independently manage workload, deadlines, and competing priorities - Meet monthly billable hour requirements established by the firm - Participate in firm initiatives, training, and team‑building efforts - Pursue ongoing professional growth and deepening expertise in special district and local government law Skills - Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school - Active Colorado law license in good standing, or ability to obtain licensure promptly - 0–2 years of legal experience, including internships, clerkships, or clinical work - Demonstrated interest in transactional law, special districts, local government law, or public sector representation - Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships - Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment - Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including effectiveness in virtual settings (phone, video conferencing, and Teams) - Ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks, and manage workload to meet deadlines - Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (advanced Word functions, Outlook, and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Pro (e‑signatures) - Commitment to ongoing professional development - Demonstrating exposure to transactional law, specifically with local governments, special districts, homeowners' associations, or real estate - Experience with billable hour and time‑entry expectations - Established knowledge of the Colorado Special District Act/Title 32- Special Districts Benefits - Health Insurance: Firm pays 100% of the employee premium (base plan) - Dental Insurance: Firm pays 100% of the employee premium (base plan) - Vision Insurance: Firm pays 100% of the employee premium (base plan) - Short-Term Disability & Long-Term Disability: Firm Paid - Life Insurance: Firm Paid - 401(k): Safe harbor plan with 3% firm contribution plus discretionary profit-sharing up to 2%. - Flexible summer hour program. - Sabbatical program after 5 years. - Unlimited vacation time for attorneys meeting billing requirements. - 11 firm holidays + 1 week Summer Break+ 1 week Winter Break Company Overview - WBA Local Government Law has been providing legal services in support of Colorado communities since 1997.
