AI Content Editor (Fiction)

Note: This posting is made on behalf of one of our clients, operating on a confidential basis. Full company details, background and information will be shared with candidates selected for interviews. Only candidates residing in the USA will be considered at this time. Company: Confidential Location: Remote Type: Contract Compensation: $25-35 per hour About This Opportunity We have integrated AI-assisted drafting into our editorial pipeline with excellent results - because every piece of content moves through human hands at every stage, from start to finish. We are looking for an experienced writer/editor to assist with the final quality gate in this workflow. This is a hands-on, lightweight "w-editing" role, not a proofreading pass. The Role You will receive AI-generated drafts that have been produced from detailed, human-crafted inputs. These drafts will have been heavily edited already, and you will serve as the final gatekeeper and make them publishable. Specifically: - Read through AI-generated content and compare it to the original input, ensuring accuracy, structure and completeness - Rewrite passages that feel flat, generic, repetitive or tonally inconsistent - Smooth transitions, fix pacing issues and ensure narrative or argumentative logic holds throughout - Maintain and enforce a consistent voice across a piece or series of pieces - Flag structural problems or gaps that need to be addressed upstream - Think of it as developmental editing meets rewriting (hence: “w-editing”), performed on machine-generated material instead of a human first draft. The skill set is the same, the source material is different. Requirements Must-haves: - Demonstrable proof (through resume/cv and/or samples) of professional editing, rewriting, or developmental editing experience in (ideally) the fiction/creative space - Demonstrated ability to rewrite and elevate rough or uneven prose while preserving intent and structure - Demonstrated ability to spot and surgically remove/rewrite/edit common failure points in AI-generated text (repetitions, common AI phrases, overly descriptive language, etc.) - Strong instinct for voice, tone, and consistency — you can spot when something "sounds wrong" even if you can't immediately articulate why - Comfort working with AI-generated content without ideological friction — you see it as raw material, not a moral issue - Ability to work at production pace; this is not a one-chapter-per-month role - Excellent judgment about when something needs a light touch vs. a full rewrite Absolute discretion — you understand and respect that this workflow is confidential and are comfortable signing an NDA Strong pluses: - Experience editing across multiple genres or content types - Familiarity with AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and an understanding of their common failure modes — e.g., repetitive phrasing, hedging, tonal drift, bland transitions - Background in ghostwriting or work-for-hire publishing where confidentiality was standard - Speed without sloppiness What We're Not Looking For: - Someone who needs to be credited or bylined for this work - Someone who views AI-assisted content as inherently unethical and would be uncomfortable with the process - A pure proofreader — this role requires substantive editorial judgment and rewriting ability - Someone who cannot maintain strict confidentiality about the workflow To apply please send the following to [email protected] with the subject line "AI-Content Editor App" (all emails to this address with other subject lines will be discarded): - A brief cover letter (a few paragraphs, not a novel) telling us about your editorial background in the fiction space and why this role interests you. Please include the genres you have edited in the fiction space as well. - How your experience speaks to the job tasks listed in The Role earlier in this listing - Your resume or CV demonstrating your editorial experience (including whether it was/is in non-fiction, fiction, or both). - Samples of your editing work (before/after). If you don't have a shareable sample, describe your editing process in concrete terms. Candidates who advance will be contacted to arrange for a brief interview. Candidates who advance past the interview will be given a paid trial assignment: a section of raw AI output to edit, along with a sample of already edited content for you to base your edits upon. We are looking for someone to interview, complete a trial and begin work immediately. Qualified applicants will be contacted directly by our client after their application is received.
