Location: Fully Remote (Must live within DC MD VA area for occasional in-person meetings)
Compensation: $120,000–$130,000 base + ~10% bonus

Position Overview
The Accounting Manager, reporting to the VP of Property Accounting, will oversee the financial operations for a portfolio of multifamily properties. This role manages a team of property accountants and serves as a key partner to operations, leadership, and external stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
This is a fully remote position, however candidates must reside in the DC/Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area to support occasional office visits, audits, or team meetings.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage day-to-day accounting activities for a portfolio of approximately 10–20 properties
• Review and approve:
• Monthly financial statements
• Bank reconciliations
• Cash wires and funding activity
• Ensure all reporting deadlines are consistently met (month-end, quarter-end, year-end)
• Serve as a primary accounting contact for third-party stakeholders regarding:
• Financial statement questions
• Distributions
• Business license filings
• Personal property tax filings and other tax-related inquiries
• Oversee accounting transitions related to:
• New property onboardings
• Property dispositions or management transitions
• Preparation of sale prorations
• Partner closely with Operations on:
• Annual budgeting and reforecasting
• Cash funding draws
• Financial statement preparation and analysis
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of property accountants, including:
• Training and development
• Performance management
• Goal setting and accountability
• Collaborate with senior accounting leadership on:
• Monthly close
• Year-end close
• Annual audit coordination
• Manage multiple deadlines across multiple property management systems
• Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP and industry standards
Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in real estate or property accounting
• 5+ years in a people management or leadership role
• Strong background in affordable housing, multifamily or property management accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, SUMIFs, etc.)
• Experience working with property management/accounting software
• Yardi experience preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
• Customer-service oriented mindset with strong stakeholder management skills
